Morehouse College Glee Club to Perform in Rochester on March 12



ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Gamma Iota Boulé Foundation will host the renowned Morehouse College Glee Club for a special concert on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at Asbury First United Methodist Church, 1050 East Avenue, Rochester.


Founded in 1911, the Morehouse College Glee Club is the official choral ensemble of Morehouse College. Known for its excellence in choral performance, the group has performed at historic events, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s funeral, President Jimmy Carter's inauguration and funeral, the Super Bowl, and the Olympics. Internationally, the Glee Club has toured Africa, Russia, Poland, and the Caribbean.


Under the direction of Rochester native Dr. David E. Morrow, the concert will feature a diverse repertoire, including classical choral works, spirituals, barbershop quartet pieces, and the Nigerian carol "Betelehemu."

A Concert for a Cause


Proceeds will support the Gamma Iota Boulé Foundation’s initiatives, including scholarships for local high school seniors, the Umoja Food Basket distribution, Thanksgiving meals for a local middle school, the Women’s Health Matters Workshop, support for the Greater Rochester Black Business Alliance, and holiday clothing drives. Since 2017, the Foundation has contributed approximately $150,000 to the Rochester community.

Businesses and individuals are encouraged to support the event through sponsorships. For sponsorship opportunities, please complete the attached pledge form by February 24, 2025.

The Morehouse College Glee Club, a leading ensemble among Historically Black Colleges and Universities, has built a legacy of musical excellence. Members, who come from diverse academic backgrounds, serve as ambassadors for Morehouse College through their performances. The Glee Club has been featured in major cultural events, including the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, and on soundtracks for Spike Lee films "School Daze" and "Miracle at St. Anna."
