Monroe County Executive Adam Bello today announced that public swimming at Ontario Beach Park is open for the 2024 season. Lifeguards will be on duty from 3 to 7 p.m at which time swimming will be permitted.

“With extreme temperatures affecting Monroe County, our Parks Department sprang into action, with an early opening of our new spray park at Ontario Beach Park earlier this week and I’m proud to share they are able to open the beach early as well securing appropriate lifeguard staffing,” said County Executive Bello. “We want everyone to stay safe and cool during this heat wave and all summer long. I encourage our residents to

take advantage of our beachfront and the free swimming lessons offered.”

Beginning, Friday, June 21, swimming is permitted seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Labor Day. Swimming is prohibited when lifeguards are not on duty. Free swim lessons are available for ages 5 and up by appointment. Please call (585) 753-PARK to make an appointment.

For water conditions, and to ensure the beach is open for swimming call (585) 753-5887. Harborfest, presented by the Ontario Beach Park Program Committee, begins on June 21 and concludes on June 23. Patrons are encouraged to take advantage of the free carousel rides throughout the festival. Starting Friday, June 21, the historic Dentzel Carousel will begin operating from noon to 7 p.m. seven days a week. The Dentzel Carousel was installed at Ontario Beach Park in 1905, and has remained in its original location ever since.

Ontario Beach Park has an inclusive playground, restroom facilities and changing rooms that are open to the public. The park also has an accessible mat that can be used by anyone who utilizes a wheelchair, walker, wagon or stroller. The mat is located immediately east of the Roger Robach Community Center, where existing sidewalks and ramps allow for ADA accessibility. Additionally, the park has a new accessible spray park as another option to cool off on hot days.

Ontario Beach Park is located on the shore of Lake Ontario in the northernmost section of the City of Rochester near the Irondequoit border. The park is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
