The Rochester Broadway Theatre League (RBTL) has announced a new partnership with the Rochester Music Hall of Fame (RMHF), marking RMHF as the first new arts organization to take residence at the West Herr Performing Arts Center (WHPAC) since its renaming and reimagining. This collaboration will provide RMHF with its first-ever permanent exhibition space in its 15-year history, open for public viewing.

The announcement aligns with RBTL’s 2023 vision to restore and revitalize the historic six-floor WHPAC into a multi-stage, mixed-use venue for community arts organizations. This vision is being brought to life through PROJECT RESTOURATION, an initiative aimed at securing a vibrant future for the arts in the Greater Rochester region while establishing a lasting cultural legacy. RMHF’s commitment to the WHPAC marks a significant milestone in achieving this goal.

“A performing arts center is a place to celebrate all forms of arts and entertainment, and the Rochester Music Hall of Fame is exactly the kind of presence that should be here,” said RBTL CEO and Board Chair Arnie Rothschild. “Great musicians need a space where their talent and dedication can be honored, and RBTL is proud to provide that.”

Since its founding, RMHF has recognized 68 musicians, bands, and industry professionals with ties to Rochester for their contributions to musical excellence. Through this partnership, RMHF plans to open its first physical exhibit at WHPAC by early 2026. The exhibit will feature photographs, videos, music, and memorabilia honoring its inductees.

“Rochester Music Hall of Fame is thrilled to collaborate with RBTL as the West Herr Performing Arts Center welcomes arts organizations and the community,” said Jack Whittier, RMHF Board President. “This partnership brings our dream of a permanent home to life, where we can celebrate the legacy of Rochester’s music scene. We’re also excited about the restoration of WHPAC’s performance spaces, which will inspire more live music in this historic venue.”

Lou Gramm, a Rochester native, RMHF inductee, and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member, praised the collaboration. “I applaud RBTL and RMHF for coming together to honor Rochester’s rich musical heritage,” said Gramm, whose career with Foreigner was launched after a backstage meeting at the Auditorium Theatre. “I’m eager to see the incredible experiences that will emerge from this partnership.”

The collaboration will also expand arts education opportunities for local students. RBTL currently offers programs tied to its Touring Broadway series, while RMHF engages youth by highlighting Rochester’s music history and career opportunities in the industry. Plans are underway to integrate these efforts, immersing student groups in the forthcoming RMHF exhibits.

The WHPAC, already home to the RBTL/West Herr Auditorium Theatre, A Magical Journey Thru Stages, the Rochester Theater Organ Society, and the Rochester Musicians’ Association, is excited to welcome RMHF to its growing arts and entertainment community.
