Roc Murals Day of Celebration Kicks off at Edgerton R-Center Public Art, Refreshments, and Family-Friendly Activities

Mayor Malik D. Evans invites the Rochester community to participate in the Roc Murals Day Celebration, marking the completion of four new murals, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

Events at each mural site will feature the art, artists’ discussions about their work, refreshments, and other family-friendly activities, including a Mural Art Passport book.

Funded by $80,000 of the City’s Percent for the Arts Program, the four murals are in neighborhoods most affected by redlining, gun violence, and historical disinvestment. Work on the murals started in the fall of 2023 and this event celebrates their completion.

A press conference will kick off the celebration at the first location, listed below, at 11 a.m. inviting community members to visit each of the mural locations:

• 11 a.m. – Edgerton R-Center, 41 Backus St. (Artists: Shawnee Hill & Katie Jo Suddaby)

• 12:30 p.m. – Avenue D R-Center, 200 Avenue D (Artists: Hilleyri Binet & Tim Lynch)

• 2:00 p.m. – Lincoln Branch Library, 851 Joseph Ave. (Artists: Chloe Smith)

• 3:30 p.m. – Dr. Charles T. Lunsford School No. 19, 465 Seward St. (Artists: Hugo Medina & Erica Bryant)

The City of Rochester allocates one percent of the total development costs of eligible infrastructure projects each year for public art initiatives.
