Regional Transit Service (RTS) says that the 15-minute frequency on Route 22 Lake Avenue is being reinstated, beginning Tuesday, September 3*. This is part of RTS’ ongoing effort to resume service of 10 frequent routes as initially implemented as part of the Reimagine RTS transit system redesign launched in May 2021.

“When going through the Reimagine RTS process, frequent service was the most popular and requested feature of the new transit system and we are happy to be able to restore 15-mintue frequency to another route,” RTS CEO Miguel Velázquez said. “I thank our customers and employees for their input on the needs of this route, and I thank our representatives in Albany for providing the increase in funding that makes this improvement possible.”

“As Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee I believe in the ability of public transit to break down transportation barriers and better connect our communities,” Senator Jeremy Cooney said. “That’s why I fought alongside my colleagues to secure higher funding for transit systems like RTS in this year’s state budget. I commend RTS for using these resources to cut wait times and improve reliability to meet the transportation needs of our community.”

Prior to this change, buses on the Lake Avenue route run every 30-minutes on weekdays. When this improvement goes into effect, buses will run every 15-minutes on weekdays between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and every 30-minutes the rest of the day. The 15-minute service will run between the RTS Transit Center and the Eastman Hub at Ridge Road. Service on this route north of Ridge Road will run every 30-minutes during this time. The frequency on weekends will remain the same with service running every 30-minutes between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., and every hour the rest of the day.

In addition to the improvement to Route 19 Lake Avenue, RTS is also adjusting the timing of the schedule on a few routes and the end of the line of another. Customers can see the updated schedules and full list of changes going into effect on Monday, September 2 on the RTS website at myRTS.com/preview.

*Note: While the service changes take effect on Monday, September 2, 15-minute service will begin on Tuesday, September 3, because we will run a holiday schedule on September 2, for Labor Day.
