Sen. Samra Brouk honored Angelica Perez-Delgado, president and CEO of the Ibero-American Action League, as the 2024 Woman of Distinction on Wednesday.

The New York State Women of Distinction program, presented by the state Senate, allows each of the 63 state senators to nominate one woman from their district each year to recognize those who have enhanced their community through a commitment to excellence.

Perez-Delgado, who has served as president and CEO of the Ibero-American Action League since 2018, has more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. A native of Rochester’s North Clinton neighborhoods, she began her career as a substance abuse therapist before transitioning into administration more than a decade ago. Despite facing poverty, trauma, and dropping out of high school, Perez-Delgado turned her life around through the same services she now leads.

“This year, I present Angelica ‘Angie’ Perez-Delgado with the Woman of Distinction award to celebrate her exceptional drive, dedication, and leadership in our community,” Brouk said. “She is a shining example of how someone can overcome obstacles and adversity to achieve greatness and make a difference in their community. Angie’s trailblazing path has been defined by her dedication to empowering others and creating positive, lasting change.”

Perez-Delgado expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am truly blessed and honored to receive the NYS Women of Distinction award from Sen. Brouk. Serving my community is a privilege that I cherish deeply, and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the neighborhood and community that has shaped me into the woman I am today.”

New York State Sen. Samra Brouk (Sahm-ra Brew-k) represents the 55th Senate District, including parts of Monroe County. Her district includes East and West Irondequoit, Webster, Penfield, Perinton, Fairport, Pittsford, East Rochester, and the eastern part of the city of Rochester. Brouk chairs the Mental Health Committee and serves on the Children and Families, Cities 2, Consumer Protection, Health, Internet and Technology, and Veterans, Homeland Security, and Military Affairs committees.
