Senator Brouk’s 2nd Annual Youth Mental Health Advisory Board Convenes
28 high school students will have the opportunity to work with the Senator on youth mental health legislation.
Senator Samra Brouk convened the Youth Mental Health Advisory Board (YMHAB) for their first meeting on Tuesday, November 19.
"The voices from our second Youth Mental Health Advisory Board are important for shaping the future of mental health legislation that will affect generations to come,” Brouk said.
The YMHAB is composed of 28 students from 15 different high schools throughout Monroe County. Board members will meet with the Senator’s office from now until February to lend their voices and lived experiences to inform legislation that meet the mental health needs of younger New Yorkers.
The YMHAB is tasked with helping shape and inform real policy as it pertains to young people and their mental health. YMHAB members will be able to share their concerns and feedback on the issues that matter most to them, and will have the unique opportunity to learn about the legislative process from a firsthand perspective.
Members of the Advisory Board should expect to converse, share, and collaborate with the Senator and staff regarding issues related to mental health and the challenges that exist for young people in our community.
“Young people are invested in devising solutions for mental health crises in New York State. I am proud of our young people for stepping up and discussing the issues that impact them the most– we know individuals who are closest to pressing issues are well positioned to solve them," said Brouk.
