BETHLEHEM, Ga. — A shooting at a High School in Georgia on Tuesday afternoon left at least four people dead—two students and two teachers—sparking a swift response from local authorities and raising concerns about school safety.

According to officials, the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia.

The shooter is believed to be a 14-year-old but at this time it’s unclear whether he attended the school.

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene within minutes and secured the area. School officials immediately placed the campus on lockdown, which lasted for several hours. Classes were dismissed early as a precaution, and parents were advised to pick up their children from a designated reunification area.

Sheriff’s deputies have taken the 14-year-old male into custody in connection with the shooting. The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault and remains in juvenile detention. Investigators have not disclosed the motive behind the shooting, but they are continuing to interview witnesses and review security footage.

“We are deeply concerned about the safety of our students and staff,” said Barrow County Schools Superintendent Dr. Lisa R. Gentry. “We are working closely with law enforcement to ensure that our schools are safe and secure.”

In response to the incident, the school district has announced that additional security measures will be implemented at all campuses. Counseling services will also be made available to students and staff affected by the shooting.

Governor Brian Kemp expressed his concern over the incident, stating, “My thoughts are with the student who was injured and their family. We must continue to do everything in our power to ensure that our schools are safe environments for our children.”

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Apalachee High School, located in Bethlehem, Georgia, serves approximately 1,500 students. The school district has promised to keep the community updated as more details become available.
