The Greatest Lily White Show On Earth

Howard Eagle

Last week, we witnessed the culmination of the greatest-lily-white-show-on-earth, the U.S. Republican Party National Political Convention. I would like to highlight a few outstanding observations regarding the final night, but first, let's reflect briefly on activities from night-three (specifically as it relates to the wild speech by Donald Trump's vice-presidential-running-mate, "J. D." Vance).

During Vance's speech on Wednesday, he mentioned that he grew up in Middletown, Ohio (which is composed of damn-near 80% white folks—Surprise surprise). He is a hillbilly (according to his own assertion). Of course he's NOT typical, but a hillbilly nonetheless (relative to his 'yahoo'-mentality). He began his speech by saying that the third night of their lily-white Convention represented "a celebration of what [the United States of] America once was, and with [their] god's grace - what it will soon be again." What a scary-ass-thought, especially the "once was" part, e.g., "once was" WHEN (specifically)?

Of course dude is a straight-up liar. For example, he claimed that "when Donald Trump rose to his feet in that Pennsylvania field [following what MANY still believe was a FAKE, "assassination" attempt] all of [the United States of] America stood with him." That's simply not true. In fact, millions of U.S. citizens are still not convinced of the story that's being told regarding the July 13th Pennsylvania ordeal. There are just far too many unanswered questions and contradictions for it to be believable unless of course one is convinced (as millions of mainly white folks seem to be) that the mysterious incident is part of their god's plan to make the U.S.A. so-called "great again."

Mister Vance said "we need a leader who fights for the people who built this country." I DO BELIEVE THAT WOULD BE US (YES, BLACK FOLKS). He also talked about having "preserved the continuity of this [nation] from 250 years past [which would take us back to 1774] to hopefully 250 years in the future." REALLY? So, does this mean that in 2274, he expects that the overall socioeconomic, sociopolitical, and sociocultural dynamics and relationships will be the same as they were in 1774? If not, then what in the hell was he babbling about?

Additionally, I was wondering if anyone else noticed the resounding round of applause and enthusiastic chants that his drug-addicted, white, hillbilly mother received when he introduced her—as opposed to the lukewarm (to say the very least) response that his "loving [Indian] wife" (who is already being attacked by racist in their "big-tent" political party) received when she was introduced?

It's going to be most interesting to watch and see if the hillbilly will openly defend his "loving wife," or just expect her to suffer in silence as rabid, racist Republicans will surely continue to attack her. Each time the cameras zoomed in on her the extremely nervous-looking-half-smiles on her face were impossible to conceal. Yet the term racism was never raised in Vance's nearly 37-minute speech (not even once). I almost pity his wife, but then I'm quite certain she knew exactly what she was getting herself into when she chose to marry "James David" or "James Donald," or whoever the hell he is.

Now let's turn to the 4th and final night, at which the huge crowd of thousands resembled a very small black fly in a HUGE bowl of pure-white-buttermilk. Yet, as usual, helpful mainstream media made sure they zoomed in on probably about 20 faces-of-color, including Vance's wife. It is quite unbelievable (to say the very least) that orchestrators of the greatest-lily-white-show-on-earth really THINK they can convince us that they intend to represent EVERYONE.

I digress. Just before Trump took the stage to officially accept the lily-white-gang's nomination a hillbilly-band was playing a song titled "God bless the U.S.A."—AND I JUST COULDN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT THE RIGHT-REVEREND JEREMIAH WRIGHT (see a reference link below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYqrXVNfYUI).

Of course, the academy-award-worthy-Presidential-actor/contender and company TALK constantly about so-called "making [the United States of] America great again." However, it is so blatantly-glaring that none of them have ever put forth a specific time-frame in which the U.S.A. was so-called "great." WHEN WAS IT? We can probably guess the time-period that they have in mind.

During his one-hour-and-a-half-long rambling, rambunctious, repetitive speech, Trump mentioned that they will "return patriotism to our schools." Really? So, what is that supposed to mean? Will he enact an Executive Order by which it would be against the law (at school) NOT to place one's hand on one's heart, and pledge allegiance to a flag that has ALWAYS been a symbol of institutional and structural racism? And/or perhaps public schools that don't enforce such an order will lose federal funding?

I mean, is this dude really serious? (And I know I shouldn't ask because I'm certain he is). In most, if not all cases, public schools are still utilizing thoroughly racist, white-supremacist-based social studies/history curricula, especially and particularly since the creation—by his supporters—of the phony, so-called "anti-critical-race-theory-movement."

He also noted that "building monuments [in honor of] our ancestors is a good thing." We all know that their "ancestors" include enslavers, and if you THINK Trump is NOT referring to them, you've got another thought coming.

Lastly, he said he will "bring back the American dream" (whatever the heck that's supposed to mean). I'm with Brother Malik El Shabazz: "I don't see any American dream; I see an American nightmare" ( https://quotefancy.com/quote/277201/Malcolm-X-I-don-t-see-any-American-dream-I-see-an-American-nightmare ).

I am unequivocally convinced that no matter what happens in the Presidential Election, as usual, the nightmare will continue for the masses of Black folks. That's how it's ALWAYS been. So, what would make us THINK that 2024 is any different? This is NOT a rhetorical question. What (specifically)?
