Urban League of Rochester Seeks Businesses to Join Interrupt Racism Cohort
The Urban League of Rochester is now accepting applications for its 2025 Interrupt Racism Cohort, set to begin on January 29, 2025.
Interrupting Racism and dismantling systems of inequity are as imperative today as ever. As our nation anticipates profound shifts in policy and cultural norms over the coming years, the Greater Rochester community must remain resolute in its commitment to advancing equity and inclusion for all. Now more than ever, companies must strive for workplaces that foster belonging, resilience, and productivity—especially as our country grows more diverse and the demand for inclusive practices becomes imperative for sustainable growth and positive corporate impact.
The Urban League of Rochester, a longstanding advocate for human and civil rights, invites applications for the 2025 INTERRUPT RACISMTM Cohort. This program will empower organizations with the tools necessary to assess employee awareness and satisfaction, enhance diversity recruitment and retention efforts, and engage effectively with multicultural communities. As our nation becomes more diverse, our workplaces must adjust to meet their growing needs.
The INTERRUPT RACISMTM model allows for up to 10 employees to participate in a 12-month cohort to review and enhance policies, practices, and behaviors by:
Assessing organizational culture and climate
Setting goals using an equity lens
Using data to improve workforce and customer satisfaction
Improving corporate citizenship including environmental, social, and governance aspects
“Research has proven that diverse and inclusive organizations have higher levels of employee retention, customer satisfaction, and increased revenue,” said Dr. Candice Lucas, Senior VP of Equity & Advocacy. “Now, more than ever, we must reaffirm our commitment to making Rochester great for all employees.”
The cohort will meet virtually on the third Wednesday of each month from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with two full-day sessions scheduled for January and May. We strongly encourage businesses to maintain their commitment to equity across our region and continue their efforts to create an equitable work environment for all employees to thrive.
Hundreds, if not thousands of individuals and organizations are implementing so-called "DEI training," including SOME who are nothing more or less than straight-up hustlers. This is definitely an example of the latter.
