Vigil Held For Maplewood Park Victims

The Rochester community is rallying together to seek justice for the victims of the tragic events that unfolded at Maplewood Park. The mass shooting, which resulted in multiple injuries and the deaths of Tyasia Manning, 25 and Phylicia Council, 34, has deeply impacted residents.


The outrage within the community continues to grow, as residents demand justice for the victims. While some injured individuals are reportedly on the road to recovery, the healing process for the community will take time.


In response to the incident, a vigil was held at Parcel 5, where community members gathered to pray for peace. Many of those in attendance had been present at Maplewood Park during the shooting. Assemblymember Demond Meeks, State Senator Jeremy Cooney, and other community advocates addressed the crowd, urging individuals to report any suspicious activities related to the incident.


Authorities asserted a concerning rise in gun violence, particularly incidents targeting women and community events, has prompted officials to emphasize the importance of residents feeling safe while participating in public activities.


Community members stated peaceful gatherings are vital for community morale, and authorities are urging the community to report any suspicious activities or individuals in possession of illegal firearms.


The Major Crimes unit, with support from various agencies, confirmed they are actively conducting a thorough investigation, leaving no stone unturned in the pursuit of accountability. Officials have stressed the importance of community involvement in identifying and apprehending those responsible for the mass shooting. They are urging witnesses to come forward with any information that could aid in the investigation.


Authorities believe to prevent future devastating incidents, it is crucial to address the root causes of violence. They confirmed strategies must be developed to tackle underlying issues and create safer environments for future gatherings.
