The World of Inquiry School No. 58 (WOIS) senior class participated in their annual College March to City Hall on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.  This symbolic event celebrates seniors’ commitment to their futures, inspires younger students, and reminds the Rochester community that post-graduation opportunities are within reach for all students.

Carrying letters declaring their college and career intentions and heartfelt notes of gratitude to those who supported them along the way, the students marched proudly through downtown Rochester.  Upon arriving at City Hall, they mailed their letters in a ceremony that marked both a culmination of their efforts and a launchpad for their dreams.

While college applications are often submitted online, these letters provide a personal touch, naming specific colleges, career goals, and the individuals who inspired and guided them.

Rochester Mayor Malik Evans commended the students for their achievements and reinforced the community’s continued support.  “The skills you have developed – critical thinking, collaboration, and creative problem-solving – will serve you well wherever your journey takes you,” said Evans.  “Your World of Inquiry family will always have your back, and your city stands ready, willing, and able to support you every step of the way.”

For senior India Tisdale, the day was both exciting and emotional.  Recently accepted to Keuka College, India acknowledged her journey with gratitude for the experiences and people who guided her.  “Everything is hitting me at once,” she said.  “I am going to be graduating and going to college.  It feels like everything is going fast.” India’s letter of gratitude was sent to her father and boyfriend.  “I told my dad I appreciate everything he has done for me and how hard he has worked to get me where I am today.”

Interim Superintendent Demario Strickland took the opportunity to share a personal milestone with the seniors, using his journey to inspire them.  After six years of perseverance and dedication, he is receiving his doctorate today.  “Use my example to remember never to give up and be sure to keep going,” said Strickland.

The march, a signature event for World of Inquiry seniors, began at the school and ended at City Hall, where students were met with cheers and encouragement from School Board President Cynthia Elliott, Interim Superintendent Strickland, and Mayor Evans.  Each senior mailed their letters of intent and received a certificate to commemorate this important milestone.
