Thomas Bryant, NBA player for the Miami Heat and Rochester native, is bringing his basketball camp back to his hometown. He will be partnering with the YMCA of Greater Rochester and the City of Rochester, both of which played integral parts in his journey to the NBA.

“Hosting my camp in my hometown is always exciting,” said Bryant. “I would spend countless hours every day playing basketball at the Y and in R-Centers across the City, hours on hours of just practicing while my mom worked. I’m excited to continue to work with kids like me, and partner with the Y and City to help change the lives of youth within my hometown.”

The Y and the City are hosting this year’s camp at the Thomas P. Ryan R-Center on Saturday, August 10. It’s completely free and open to youth 9-18, with two sessions available based on age (1-3 pm for ages 9-13, and 3:30-5:30 pm for ages 14-18). Youth attending the camp will work alongside Bryant and volunteer coaches to learn the fundamentals of basketball including ball handling, passing, and shooting to improve their game.

“It’s a great privilege to once again be working with Thomas to host his basketball camp,” said Ernie Lamour, President & CEO, YMCA of Greater Rochester. “This is an awesome opportunity for the youth to be able to learn from an NBA Champion, who was born and raised in their hometown. We’re grateful to team up this year with our partners in the City of Rochester to provide great opportunities like this for the kids here in our community.”

“I have known Thomas since he was in elementary school and I am extremely proud of all his professional and personal accomplishments,” said Eric Rose, Director of Community Athletics, City of Rochester. “But I am most proud of the upstanding young man he has become. It is the City of Rochester’s pleasure to collaborate with the YMCA to help bring Thomas’ vision to fruition. We are committed to assisting Thomas in any endeavors that create a positive impact on our community.”

All youth attending the Thomas Bryant Basketball Camp will receive a T-shirt and meal.
